How much is a PureTech wet belt replacement?
At TGPP-Autocare in Stevenage, a PureTech wet belt replacement is £580 including VAT, fixed. It covers the wet belt and tensioner kit, a new sump pan, an oil strainer clean, PSA-spec 5W30 oil and filter, and an engine health check. It applies to the 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech in Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall and Toyota models. The job takes about 4 to 5 hours and we keep the car overnight so the sealant can cure. Every job has a 12-month parts and labour warranty and 0% finance is available.
What you get for £580
One fixed price covers everything on the list. The add-ons are optional jobs that make sense while the engine is apart, priced up front, and we only suggest them if your car needs them.

Optional add-ons
Priced up front. Only worth doing if your car needs them.
Sensible while the engine is already accessed, and saves a second visit later.
Alternator and ancillary belts, worth renewing at the same time.
Complete flush and refill with fresh coolant to the correct specification.
Clears residual belt debris from the oiling system before the fresh oil goes in.
Spark plugs, filters and a check, done while the car is already in.
Why every part is in the package
This is more than swapping a belt. We open the engine up properly, replace what needs replacing and clean the part that blocks when a belt breaks down, so the job lasts.
Belt and tensioner kit
A complete OE-spec wet belt kit, with the belt and tensioner replaced together using manufacturer-equivalent parts.
A new sump pan
The sump has to come off to reach and clean the oil strainer. The original pan is prone to leaking once it has been refitted, so we fit a new one every time. It is included, not an extra.
Oil strainer cleaned
Belt debris collects at the oil pick-up strainer and can block the oil supply to the engine. Cleaning it is the step that stops the problem repeating.
The right oil
PSA B71 2290-approved 5W30 and a new filter. The wrong oil is hard on the belt, and it is a common mistake, so we only use the correct specification.
Engine health check
With the engine open we look for other wear and leaks, including the VVT solenoids, and tell you what we find.
Overnight cure
The sealant needs time to cure before the engine is started and oil pressure builds. We keep the car overnight so it is done properly.
Comparing quotes? Check what is in them

- A new sump pan
- The oil pick-up strainer cleaned
- PSA-spec 5W30 oil and a new filter
- A written warranty on the work
Ours includes every one, for £580. If another quote does not, ask why.

PureTech belts fail earlier than you would expect
The PureTech belt runs in the engine oil. As it ages it breaks down and sheds small pieces of rubber into the oil. Those pieces collect at the oil pick-up strainer and can block it.
Earlier than the official interval
The official interval is 100,000 km (about 62,000 miles) or 6 years. We have seen belts in a poor state at around 40,000 miles, particularly on cars used for short journeys or with gaps in the service history.
Often little warning
A blocked strainer can starve the engine of oil, damage the VVT system, or cause timing failure or seizure. The bill can run to thousands of pounds. Replacing the belt in time costs a fraction of that.
Short journeys make it worse. The engine never fully warms up, fuel gets into the oil, and that diluted oil is harder on the belt. If your car mostly does short trips, replace it sooner and change the oil more often.
Warning signs
Many belts give no warning at all. If you notice any of these, get the car looked at as soon as you can.
Low oil pressure warning light
Stop driving as soon as it is safe, especially if it comes on at higher revs. Do not carry on to see if it clears.
Ticking or rattling on a cold start
Can point to a worn or slipping belt.
Loss of power or misfires
Especially above 3,500 to 4,000 rpm. Belt wear can upset the engine timing.
Engine management light
VVT faults from oil contamination often show up as warning codes. Book a diagnostic.
Oil that is black, or using more oil than normal
Very dirty oil between changes, or higher oil consumption, is worth checking.
No belt change on file
If the car is nearing 6 years or 60,000 miles and the belt has never been done, it is time to plan it.
When should it be replaced?
We recommend replacing it at 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first, and sooner if the car is used mainly for short journeys or the service history is patchy.
Under 4 years and 40,000 miles
Usually fine. Keep your oil changes on time with the correct PSA-spec oil.
4 to 6 years, or 40,000 to 60,000 miles
Plan it. Book the job in before it becomes urgent, especially if you do short journeys.
Over 6 years or 60,000 miles
Due or overdue. Get it checked and booked.
Not sure about your car's history? We can inspect the belt for wear and contamination before you commit. If it is showing signs of wear, replacing it is the safest option. Send us your reg and we will tell you where your car stands.

We keep the car overnight so the sealant cures properly before the engine is started and oil pressure builds.
Fresh oil, test and health check
PSA-spec 5W30 and a new filter go in, the engine is tested, and we tell you what we found.
Collect the next day
You pay on collection. The work carries a 12-month parts and labour warranty.
Two things worth knowing before you pay
Check your Stellantis cover
Stellantis has extended cover on affected PureTech engines to up to 10 years or 175,000 km, under certain conditions. It also ran a compensation scheme for owners who paid for PureTech repairs between January 2022 and December 2024.
Whether you qualify depends on your service history and circumstances, so check with Stellantis directly before assuming either way. If you need independent documentation of a fault or of work we have carried out, we can provide it.
A permanent fix: timing chain conversion
A company called Pro-Chain has developed a bolt-on timing chain conversion kit for the 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech, naturally aspirated and turbo. It replaces the wet belt with a chain, so there is no belt to replace again. We fit them.
The kit is from £829 plus fitting. Call us for current availability and a fitting price for your car.

Not sure if your car has a wet belt?
The 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech EB2 engine built from 2012 to around 2023 has a wet belt. Stellantis introduced a chain-driven engine from 2023, but the changeover is gradual, so the year and the badge alone are not enough.
The oil filler cap sits lower down, outside the plastic engine cover, near a plastic air box. This is the older engine and it needs the wet belt replacing.
The oil filler cap is part of the plastic engine cover, at the top left beside the boost pipe. This is the newer chain-driven engine, found mainly in 48V mild-hybrid models.
Watch the badge. Stellantis dropped the PureTech name in late 2024 and calls the engine "1.2 Turbo" or "1.2 Hybrid". A standard non-hybrid petrol may still have the older wet belt engine, even in a 2024 or 2025 car. The 1.0 PureTech in the 108, C1 and ProAce City is a wet belt engine too.

£580 including VAT, fixed. It covers the wet belt and tensioner kit, a new sump pan, an oil strainer clean, PSA-spec 5W30 oil and filter, and an engine health check. 0% finance is available.
A timing belt that runs inside the engine, soaked in engine oil, instead of outside it. It was meant to cut friction and noise, but the rubber is sensitive to oil quality and fuel dilution, and it can break down early and shed rubber into the oil.
Engines built from 2012 to around 2023 have a wet belt. A chain engine arrived in 2023, mainly in 48V mild hybrids, but the older engine is still in some newer non-hybrid cars. Check the oil filler cap position described above, or send us your reg and we will confirm.
We recommend 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. The official interval is 100,000 km (about 62,000 miles) or 6 years, but belts have failed well before that. Go sooner if your car mainly does short journeys.
The sump has to come off to clean the oil pick-up strainer, which is where belt debris collects. The original pan is prone to leaking when refitted, so we fit a new one every time. It is included in the £580.
The sealant has to cure before the engine is started and oil pressure builds. Keeping the car overnight is the correct process, not a delay. You drop it off and collect it the next day.
The belt sheds rubber into the oil, which can block the oil strainer and starve the engine of oil. That can damage the VVT system, cause timing failure or seize the engine, often with little warning. A replacement engine can cost thousands of pounds.

Regular servicing with the right oil helps a lot, but it does not remove the risk. The belt is sensitive to oil quality and short journeys, and even well-serviced engines can show early wear.
