How much is an MOT in Stevenage?

If something needs fixing to pass, we quote it first, and we can often do the work the same visit so you do not have to come back.

Your MOT is due anyway, and your car needs a service at some point. Book them together and we take money off the MOT. You drop the car off once, collect it once, and only lose it for one day. We do the MOT first, so if it flags something, we know before the service starts.

Pass, advisory and fail: what they mean
Here is what each result means and what happens next.
Pass
Your car meets the standard for another year. You get your new certificate with your new expiry date. A pass can still list minor defects, which are worth fixing but do not fail the car.
Advisory
The car passes, but something is wearing or could become a problem. We explain each advisory and tell you whether to fix it now or keep an eye on it.
Fail
A major or dangerous defect was found. We tell you exactly what and quote the repair. You cannot drive a car with a dangerous defect away, and a major defect means it fails.
Dangerous defects: driving a car with a dangerous defect can mean a fine of up to £2,500, 3 penalty points and a possible driving ban. If we tell you the car is dangerous, do not drive it.
Retests: if your car is repaired and retested within 10 working days, a reduced or no retest fee usually applies, depending on whether it stays with us. We tell you exactly what you will pay before you rebook.

Every year once the car is three years old. Your expiry date is on your MOT certificate and on the GOV.UK MOT checker. It is illegal to drive on a public road with an expired MOT, apart from driving to a pre-booked MOT test.

You can have it done up to one month minus one day before the current MOT runs out and keep the same renewal date. For example, if it expires on 20 November, you can test from 21 October and your new MOT will still expire on 20 November next year.
We explain exactly what failed and quote the repair. Nothing is done without your agreement. If your old MOT is still valid and there is no dangerous defect, you can take the car away and sort the repair elsewhere, though we would be glad to help. If you want to spread the cost, we offer 0% finance through PaymentAssist.
Yes, you can drive to a pre-booked MOT test. You cannot drive for any other reason without a valid MOT, and your insurance may not cover you either.
Brakes, steering, suspension, tyres and wheels, lights, wipers and washers, horn, seatbelts, exhaust and emissions, the fuel system, registration plates and the condition of the vehicle structure, among other items. It checks the car is safe and meets legal environmental standards on the day. It is not a check of the engine or gearbox condition.
