Ford 2.0L EcoBlue Wet Belt Replacement

Stevenage’s Trusted Experts

Protect your engine with our comprehensive wet belt replacement service. Now recommended every 6 years or 100,000 miles.

Why Wet Belt Replacement Matters

The Ford EcoBlue 2.0L engine uses a wet timing belt system that runs internally in engine oil. Over time, this belt can degrade due to oil contamination, risking serious and costly engine damage if it fails. Timely replacement is essential to maintain engine reliability and performance.

Revised Ford Service Intervals

Ford has recently updated their recommended service intervals for the 2.0L EcoBlue engine:

Every 6 years or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first.

This change is due to increased reports of premature belt degradation caused by oil dilution. Delaying replacement beyond this interval significantly increases the risk of belt failure and catastrophic engine damage.

Our wet belt replacement package includes:

  • Replacement of the wet timing belt
  • Replacement of the oil pump drive belt
  • New belt tensioner and idlers
  • Engine oil and filter change

How long does the wet belt replacement take?

Typically, the job takes one full working day. We aim for Next-day turnaround

Is there a warranty on the work?

Yes – we offer a 12-month warranty on all parts and labour.

Do you replace the oil and filter as part of the job?

Yes, fresh oil and a new filter are included in the service.

Can I wait until 150,000 miles like the old recommendation?

We strongly advise against this. Ford has revised the interval to 100,000 miles or 6 years due to known issues. Delaying can cause major engine damage.

What is a wet belt, and how is it different from a standard timing belt?

A wet belt runs inside the engine in oil, unlike standard belts that operate dry. It helps reduce noise and friction but is more prone to deterioration over time due to oil contamination.

Why did Ford reduce the service interval for the wet belt?

Ford revised the service interval from 150,000 miles to 100,000 miles or 6 years due to increased reports of premature belt degradation from oil dilution. Ignoring this could lead to sudden engine failure.

What happens if the wet belt fails?

If the wet belt snaps, it can cause catastrophic engine damage, including bent valves, damaged pistons, and potentially needing a full engine replacement.

Do you replace the oil pump belt at the same time?

Yes, we replace both the main timing belt and the oil pump drive belt as part of our service.

Do I need to replace the water pump too?

It’s not required, but we often recommend it as a cost-effective add-on since it’s accessible during the wet belt job.

Is this the same for all Ford EcoBlue engines?

While most EcoBlue engines use wet belts, service intervals and procedures may vary slightly depending on the model (e.g. Transit Custom, Ranger, Focus, etc.). We always confirm specifications based on your registration.
