Hundreds of PureTech Jobs Completed

PureTech Belts Fail
Earlier Than You Think

PSA's official replacement interval is 100,000km — around 62,000 miles — but real-world failures tell a very different story. We see belts in a critical state at as little as 40,000 miles. Short journeys, missed oil changes, or the wrong oil spec all accelerate wear significantly. By the time a warning light appears, the damage is often already done.

🔴
Low Oil Pressure Warning Light
Belt debris blocking the oil strainer is the most common culprit. Stop driving immediately and call us.
🔊
Ticking or Rattling on Start-Up
A worn or slipping wet belt often causes a distinctive ticking noise, especially on cold starts.
Engine Misfires or Hesitation
Belt wear throws off engine timing, causing rough running or loss of power.
🔧
Check Engine or EML Light
VVT system faults caused by oil contamination often trigger warning codes — book a diagnostic.

60,000 Miles / 6 Years — Or Much Earlier
PSA's official figure is 100,000km (62,000 miles) — but we've seen failures at 40,000. If your car's history is patchy, don't wait for a mileage milestone.

Everything Included in
Your £580 Package

This isn't a belt swap. We strip the engine properly, replace what needs replacing, and give the sealant time to cure overnight. Here's what that actually involves.

```
⚙️
Full Wet Belt Kit
Complete OE-spec wet belt kit — belt, tensioner, and associated components replaced with manufacturer-equivalent parts. No compromises on quality.
🧹
Oil Strainer Clean
Belt debris collects in the oil strainer and can block oil flow to the engine. We clean it thoroughly — skipping this step is the most common reason PureTech jobs fail early.
🛢️
PSA-Spec 5W30 Oil & Filter
Only PSA B71 2290-approved 5W30 oil goes in your engine. The wrong oil specification is one of the leading causes of premature PureTech belt failure — we never cut this corner.
🔍
Full Engine Health Check
While the engine is open, we inspect for any additional wear, leaks, or concerns — so you collect your car the next day with complete peace of mind.
Everything You Need
to Know
Questions PureTech owners ask us most often. If yours isn't here, call us on 01438 232556 and we'll give you a straight answer.
```
Unlike a traditional rubber timing belt that runs dry on the outside of the engine, the PureTech wet belt runs inside the engine submerged in oil. It's designed to reduce friction and improve efficiency — but it's directly affected by oil quality and service history, and can fail significantly earlier than the official recommendation if maintenance has been missed or the wrong oil used.
PSA's official replacement interval is 100,000km — roughly 62,000 miles — or 6 years. But real-world failures happen well before that, and we've seen belts in a critical state at as little as 40,000 miles, particularly on cars used mainly for short journeys or with any gaps in their service history. We strongly advise replacement no later than 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. If your car's history is unknown, don't wait.
To properly clean the oil pick-up strainer — which is critical on PureTech engines — the sump must be removed. The original sump pan is notorious for leaking when refitted, so we replace it with a new one as standard every time. It's the right thing to do, and it's included in the £580 price. Many garages don't do this, and that's one reason jobs fail.
Once the sump and covers are reassembled, the sealant used needs time to fully cure before the engine is started and oil pressure builds. We keep the car overnight to allow this — it's not a cut-corner, it's the correct process. You'll drop off your car and collect it the following day knowing the job has been done properly.
A degrading PureTech belt sheds rubber debris into the oil, which clogs the oil strainer and restricts oil flow to the engine. This can lead to VVT system damage, timing failure, or complete engine seizure — often with very little warning. Engine replacement typically costs £3,000 or more. The £580 service is significantly cheaper than the alternative.
It's critical. PureTech engines require PSA B71 2290-approved 5W30 oil. Using the wrong spec — which is surprisingly common — accelerates belt wear and can invalidate any warranty. We use only the correct approved oil, every time. If your car has had the wrong oil previously, that could already be a factor in early wear.
As an independent specialist, our labour rates are considerably lower than a Peugeot or Citroën main dealer — but the quality of parts and workmanship is exactly the same. We use OEM or OEM-equivalent components and follow manufacturer specifications throughout. You're not paying for franchise overheads or a dealership's showroom. Just expert work at a fair price.
Any vehicle fitted with the 1.0 or 1.2 PureTech petrol engine — including Peugeot 108, 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 5008; Citroën C1, C3, C3 Aircross, C4, C4 Picasso, C5 Aircross, Berlingo; DS3, DS3 Crossback, DS4, DS7; Vauxhall Corsa, Crossland X, Grandland X, Astra, Mokka; and Toyota ProAce City. Yes — PayAssist 0% interest-free finance is available, meaning you can spread the cost of the service at no extra charge. Ask us about this when you book or give us a call and we'll run through how it works.
Yes — and it's one of the most overlooked risk factors. On short journeys, the engine never fully warms up, which leads to fuel contaminating the oil. This diluted, degraded oil is far harsher on the wet belt. If your car is used mostly for short trips, we'd recommend earlier replacement regardless of mileage, and more frequent oil changes in the meantime.
